In 2009, Google launched goo.gl, a free URL shortening service for public websites and it’s still widely used service for URL shortening especially for Blog URLs.
Now Google announced another shortening service g.co, but this time this service is specifically for shortening URLs of Google products and service. So It’s official URL shortening service for Google websites.
“We’ll use g.co to send you only to webpages that are owned by Google, and only we can create g.co shortcuts. That means you can visit a g.co shortcut confident you will always end up at a page for a Google product or service.” Google said in a blog post.
goo.gl will continue to be our public URL shortening service that anybody can use to shorten URLs across the web.
